Why Up-Market, Down-Market Acquisitions are different

Buyers like distress sales because “distress” translates into “value pricing.” Similar to used cars, which sell at significant discounts in part because of the risk of buying a lemon, distressed companies sell at significant discounts in part because of the risk that the buyer inherits unknown liabilities. Keith Greg: Gig Tank Judge and Mentor Gig City Challenge Chattanooga, TN

Gig Tank: The best gigabit ideas, apps and businesses created during this summer’s Gig Tank will be awarded up to $300,000 in cash prizes and investment capital. The largest cash prize — $100,000 — will go to the entrepreneurial team with the most viable business built during the 14-week Gig Tank.

 

Entrepreneurs:

Each team selected for the Gig Tank will be offered $15,000 in investment capital to come to the Gig City this summer, develop their gigabit business idea and test it on a live residential and business test market.

 

Students:

Students selected for the Gig Tank will spend the summer in Chattanooga — lodging provided — collaborating, hacking and imagining the future of the Internet when bandwidth is no longer a barrier. All you need is a gigabit idea and the technical skills to start building it. Read More
